BEIJING, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang on Monday called on health authorities to ensure safety in the production, storage, transportation, and inoculation process of the vaccines against A/H1N1 influenza, for the health of the public.     Li made the remarks when visiting the Beijing-based National Institute for the Control of Pharmaceutical and Biological Products, where the country's self-developed vaccines against the A/H1N1 flu are tested. "Safety and quality are of top priority," Li said, adding that the inoculation of the A/H1N1 vaccines should always be conducted on an "informed, voluntary, and free" basis.     Li noted that autumns and winters were high-occurrence seasons for the flu, and urged the authorities to improve disease prevention and treatment in order to stop the disease from fast spreading across the country.     Authorities should focus on disease prevention in key venues and areas, especially schools, and make active efforts to prevent and deal with mass infection of the disease, Li said. A total of 242 patients were in critical conditions, the Ministry of Health said.     As of Monday, the country has inoculated more than 87 million people with A/H1N1 vaccines. China is the world's first country to issue a production license for the vaccines against the A/H1N1 flu.

BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- China and the United States on Tuesday called on Iran to "engage constructively" with the P5+1 and to "cooperate fully" with the IAEA to facilitate a satisfactory outcome.     The call was made in a joint statement issued here after talks between Chinese President Hu Jintao and visiting U.S. President Barack Obama.     The two sides reaffirmed their strong support for a comprehensive and long-term solution to the Iranian nuclear issue through negotiations.     "The two sides agreed that Iran has the right to peaceful uses of nuclear energy under the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and it should fulfill its due international obligations under that treaty," said the statement.     The two sides welcomed the talks in Geneva on Oct. 1 between the P5+1 (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) and Iran as "a promising start" towards addressing international concerns about Iran's nuclear program, and expressed their readiness to continue that engagement as soon as possible.     They emphasized in the joint statement that all efforts should be made to take confidence building steps and to call on Iran to respond positively to the proposal of the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

BEIJING, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- China's industrial output is expected to grow by about 16 percent year on year this month and in December and the full year industrial output growth could reach around 10.5 percent, Minister of Industry and Information Technology Li Yizhong said here Saturday.     At the 3-day International CEO Roundtable conference, Li said the industrial output growth would guarantee the manufacturing-based Chinese economy should achieve its full-year growth target of 8 percent.     China set the about 8-percent growth target in March this year. In October, China's industrial output rose 16.1 percent from a year earlier, the fastest pace since March 2008 and the sixth consecutive month with an acceleration of year-on-year growth.     Li said the industrial output in October had climbed to the level in June last year, which indicated a V-shaped curve of the recovery of the industrial production activities.     Other figures, such as rising company profit, surging power consumption, and increasing export orders, also pointed to the notable recovery of China's industrial production, he said.     Li also cautioned that the recovery base of China's industrial production was not solid and some industries and companies were still faced with production and operation difficulties.     He said China should continue its efforts to restructure its economy and change growth pattern by promoting innovation and technological upgrading, conserving energy and cutting emissions, and integrating information technologies with industrial development.     According to the minister, the industrial production accounted for 43 percent of China's total GDP in 2008 and contributed 42.8 percent to the GDP growth last year.     Thanks to the global financial crisis, China's economy cooled to its slowest pace in seven years in 2008 and expanded 9 percent from a year earlier to reach 30.07 trillion yuan (4.4 trillion U.S. dollars).

COPENHAGEN, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- China has all along actively pushed forward international negotiations on climate change, and made its own contribution in energy saving and emissions cut, said a senior Chinese official on Sunday.     China, with its continuous development and increasing influence, is playing an ever bigger role in climate change negotiations, Xie Zhenhua, vice minister in charge of China's National Development and Reform Commission, told Xinhua.     Xie is in Copenhagen to attend the UN Climate Change Conference, which is slated for Dec. 7 to 18.     "As a responsible country, China takes a serious attitude toward combating climate change. It has always wielded positive and constructive influence on climate change negotiations, and wishes this latest conference a success," said Xie.     He said China's most important measure to boost this conference was its recent announcement of the target to reduce its carbon intensity for per unit of GDP by 40 percent to 45 percent by 2020 against the 2005 level.     He said China has set up a series of energy conservation and emissions reduction targets, and has taken many measures to ensure their implementation.     China would continue to raise energy efficiency, develop nuclear power and renewable energy, plant trees, adopt energy-saving measures in construction and transportation, and develop low-carbon economy, he said.     Developed countries, which shoulder historical responsibilities for climate change due to their emissions, have accomplished their industrialization, while China is still in the process of industrialization, noted Xie.     China, as a developing country, voluntarily put on table its emissions cut target by 2020, although the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change does not demand any numerical limitations from developing countries.     China, on its road to industrialization, will not send off greenhouse gases without restriction, Xie said, adding that China will never repeat developed countries' old paths of high energy consumption and unlimited emissions.     He said China holds the view that its efforts in saving energy, cutting emissions and boosting international climate change negotiations represent a responsible attitude to mankind and the country itself.

BEIJING, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- China on Saturday again expressed strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to the U.S. arms sales to Taiwan, urging the U.S. to respect China's core interests and withdraw related arms sales plan.     "The U.S. arms sales to Taiwan infringe upon China's security interest as well as peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, and interfere with China's internal affairs," said Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu in a statement.     Jiang made the comments in response to a reporter's question on U.S. government approval for Raytheon Company to sell 1.1 billion U.S. dollars of Patriot antimissile system to Taiwan.     "We have raised solemn representations to the U.S. side," said Jiang. "We urge the U.S. to stop arms sales to Taiwan to avoid undermining China-U.S. cooperation."     Jiang said, "We urge the U.S. to clearly recognize the severe consequences of arms sales to Taiwan, reject the cold war mentality, and adhere to the three Sino-U.S. joint communiques, especially the principles established in the Joint Communique on Aug. 17, 1982."     The "Aug. 17 communique" stated that the U.S. would not seek to carry out a long-term policy of arms sales to Taiwan, and intended to gradually reduce arms sales.     "We also persuade the Raytheon Company to stop pushing or participating in arms sales to Taiwan, and refrain from doing anything that harms China's sovereignty and security interest," Jiang said.
