BEIJING, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- Chinese authorities launched a website to handle public complaints regarding irregular practices during the selection and appointment of Party and government officials.     The public is encouraged to log on to the website (www.12380.gov.cn), launched by the Organization Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, to report offences.     The site aims to improve public supervision and to ensure prompt detection and correction of offences involving official selection and appointment, the Organization Department said Thursday in a statement.     Complaints could be filed in anonymity, but real names were preferred, said the website. It requires informants to report problems truthfully and warns that fabrication and false charges could lead to legal punishment.     The website also said it mainly handles complaints about officials above the county level.     To prevent malicious or repetitious reporting and junk mail, informants can only submit a maximum of five complaints from one computer in a single day.     The Organization Department had already set up a report center for offences in official selection and appointment. In 2004, it opened an informant's hotline (12380).

SEOUL, April 7 (Xinhua) -- Li Changchun, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC), on Tuesday called for stronger economic and trade ties between China and South Korea and urged their business communities to work together to help promote the strategic cooperation between the two nations.     Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the call in an address at a welcome luncheon for him hosted by four Korean business groups: the Korea Foreign Trade Association, the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Federation of the Korean Industries, and the Korea Federation of Small and Medium Businesses. ISLAMABAD, April 18 (Xinhua) -- A 100-member-strong youth delegation of Pakistan is to leave for China on Sunday on a week-long visit as a program of boosting exchanges between the two friendly countries.     "The youths from all walks of life of Pakistan will have the chance to look at China and know more about China," said Charge d'Affairs Yao Jing of Chinese Embassy in Pakistan told youth delegation at a reception.     Chinese President Hu Jintao invited 500 young people from Pakistan to visit China within five years when he paid a state visit to Pakistan in November, 2006. SHENZHEN, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- China started construction of the eastern segment of the country's second West-East natural gas pipeline in Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province on Saturday.     Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang attended the kick-off ceremony announced the start of the construction.     The pipeline, the second after the first West-East natural gas transfer project, will cross 15 regions and carry 30 billion cubic meters of natural gas every year to Zhejiang, Shanghai, Guangdong and Hong Kong, among others.     When visiting the construction site, Li said the pipeline under construction is the country's most expensive energy project in decades and the world's longest natural gas pipeline. BEIJING, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao have ordered all-out efforts to combat the severe drought in the country's vast wheat-growing area to ensure a good summer harvest, a State Council meeting was told Thursday. The central government on Thursday decided to earmark another 300 million yuan (44 million U.S. dollars) as drought relief fund in additional to 100 million yuan already allocated. The fund will be used to buy agricultural machinery and other production materials.     Lack of rainfall has led to severe drought in northern China, leaving about 141 million mu (9.3 million hectares) wheat or 43 percent of the country's total affected, according to the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA). BEIJING, April 13 (Xinhua) -- House prices in 70 major Chinese cities fell 1.3 percent in March from a year earlier, the National Bureau of Statistics said Monday.     The month-on-month figure, however, rose 0.2 percent in March.     In the first quarter, the area of commercial houses sold rose 8.2 percent to 113 million square meters and sales jumped 23.1 percent to 505.9 billion yuan (74 billion U.S. dollars), the NBS said.     Prices of new houses fell 1.9 percent year-on-year last month but rose 0.1 percent from February. Prices for second-hand houses rose 0.3 percent month-on-month despite of a decline of 0.4 percent from a year earlier.     Analysts warned it was still too early to say the property market had revived, as sales were mainly driven by surging credit and by stimulus policies, such as tax cuts. Other indicators, such as land purchases by developers, had shown no signs of recovery.     Floor areas of newly built houses in the first quarter tumbled 16.2 percent to 201 million sq m. The decline was 1.4 percentage points more than the January-February figure.     Land purchased for homebuilding fell more than 40 percent in the first quarter to 47.42 million sq m, and the actual area developed shrank 11.3 percent to 52.2 million sq m.     China Vanke, the country's biggest property developer by market value, reported on April 11 its first-quarter sales rose 21 percent to 12.22 billion yuan.
