BEIJING, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- China's National Bureau of Corruption Prevention said in a circular posted on its website Monday that it would explore ways to fight corruption in non-public commercial entities and "new social organizations" in 2010."New social organizations" refer to intermediaries, non-governmental organizations and private non-business groups. Statistics from the Ministry of Civil Affairs showed there are around 400,000 such organizations in China.Industry associations will also be monitored for corruption, according to the circular, which highlighted the bureau's work in 2010.The bureau promised that it would earnestly exchange and cooperate with the international community in the anti-corruption efforts.It said that authorities would continue working to prevent officials using public money to travel overseas and they would work on the implementation of regulations for supervising officials whose spouses and children have emigrated abroad.It also pledged to improve transparency of government affairs as well as factory and village management's dealing of local affairs.According to an survey carried out by People's Daily Online, corruption has remained one of the top three concerns of Chinese netizens since the survey was initiated in 2006.Chinese authorities' latest move in the fight against corruption took place on Saturday as the State Council issued a revised regulation on the implementation of the Audit Law, which aims at tightening supervision of areas highly prone to corruption, including the construction industry.

BEIJING, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese government's insight and the adjustment of the economic pattern were the two major factors helping China ride out the global economic downturn, scholars said here Sunday.Zhuang Fuling, professor of Renmin University, said the Chinese government made a correct analysis of China's economic situation and took quick and resolute action.At the end of 2007, the central government called for vigilance against possible scenarios of various sorts. UNITED NATIONS, March 18 (Xinhua) -- China on Thursday called upon the international community to render more support and provide more assistance to Afghanistan, and voiced its support for a leading coordination role by the United Nations in the reconstruction of the south Asian country.The appeal came as Li Baodong, the permanent Chinese representative to the United Nations, was speaking to a UN Security Council meeting on the current situation of Afghanistan.The international community must keep focused on Afghanistan, which is currently at a key transitional period, and increase support and assistance to enhance Afghan sovereignty and capacity for development, Li said.The international community should also step up the efforts to assist the country in strengthening its military and police forces, promoting the process of national reconciliation in the nation, he said.He said that China supports the leading coordination role played by the United Nations in helping Afghanistan in its reconstruction process.China had actively supported and participated in Afghanistan's peaceful reconstruction, he said, adding that China will continue to provide assistance to Afghanistan within its capacity.China had invited Afghan President Hamid Karzai to visit China on March 21-25, Li said, adding that he is confident that visit will achieve positive results.

It does not go against the UN relevant resolution of sanction on the DPRK," he said.The UN Security Council last June adopted a resolution imposing tougher sanctions on the DPRK, including a tighter arms embargo and new financial restrictions, after the DPRK announced a successful nuclear test on May 25, the second since 2006.The resolution also underlined that "measures imposed by this resolution are not intended to have adverse humanitarian consequences for the civilian population of the DPRK." 

BEIJING, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- The outlook of China's steel industry will be better this year than 2009 as the impact of the stimulus package continues, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said Saturday.A strong increase in new investment plans would help boost domestic demand for steel while improving external demand following world economic recovery would encourage steel exports, the MIIT said.The implementation of a proactive fiscal policy and moderately easy monetary policy injected ample liquidity into the market and provided the steel enterprises with easy access for fund, it said.However, excess capacity, still weak external demand and rising production costs would all impose pressure on the development of the industry, the ministry said.China's crude steel production capacity was forecast at 700 million tonnes at the end of 2009, compared with 660 million tonnes at the end of 2008.In 2009, China's steel output rose 13.5 percent to 567.84 million tonnes. Its 68 large and medium sized iron and steel companies reaped 55.39 billion yuan (8.12 billion U.S. dollars) in profit in 2009, down 31.43 percent from a year earlier.
