“America’s longstanding, legally mandated obligations to tribal nations should be honored no matter the political quarrels of the moment,” read a letter signed last week by top officials with the National Congress of American Indians, the National American Indian Housing Association, the National Indian Health Board and other groups.
“For them, this has been a really big part of their life, this is their story,” he said. “For some of those people, it’s coming to an end now, and that’s just a big thing to wrap your head around. So I’m just trying to be present and listen. For me, it’s more about the people than it is anything about what ended up happening to the company, although that is significant. I think I just had a lot of time to process that already.”
“Customers certainly love Prime,” he said. “The available units for shipment have grown dramatically from 1 million to over 19 million in the last nine years. Customer usage on a per customer basis has gone up pretty dramatically given the selection, and the convenience of the service. Shipping costs have gone up a lot, fuel costs have gone up a lot, so that’s certainly the basis for us to look at it.”
“Everybody in our community is talking about it because it has impacted our business and travel, and we don’t want to see this tension escalating,” he said, adding that the globalization of wealth needs “more connection rather than disconnection”.
“I would say the last thing I’d say is that he’s just an amazing learner. I have never met someone who learns the way he does. I mean, he comes with a lot to begin with. But the way that he is open and curious about learning about new areas and new topics and opinions. I think in politics, we really fault our leaders for flip-flopping or changing their opinions. And, I think, one of the values that we believe strongly about inside Amazon is that great leaders keep listening to additional inputs — people inside of the company and outside the company — and keep adjusting their opinions and their ideas as they learn more…. You shouldn’t have one opinion, and stick with that forever…. He’s just an amazing learner that way.”
“I think it’s time to break ’em up — enforce the antitrust laws, and we’ve got to look at the antitrust laws in terms of the world we have today,” Warren said.
